Recent news reports that malware known as VPNFIlter is targeting consumer-level Wi-Fi routers used in home and small offices. Nearly all major brands are affected. The malware is controlled by organized hacker teams (Turla, Fancy Bear, APT28) that monitors home Internet traffic and disables encryption to websites.
Rebooting the router will not fix the problem.

Your router is most likely at risk or already infected, if you answer “yes” to any of these questions:
* Is your home Wi-Fi router older than 2017? Are you unsure that you applied firmware updates in 2018?
* Can you login to your Wi-Fi router from outside your home?
* Do you have USB drive attached to the router for sharing?

* Disable any “remote access”. No login from outside your home. No attached file share (USB attached drive).
* Update firmware immediately of your Wi-Fi router.
* Change password used to change settings on the router ITSELF, not the Wi-Fi password you use to connect.
Note: Before starting, write down your router configuration or backup to file.

1) Reset Router to Factory Defaults
2) Upgrade to the latest firmware
3) Change the default admin password
4) Disable Remote Administration
